3 The dictates of thy sov'reign will

With joy our grateful hearts receive; All thy delight in us fulfil;

Lo, all we are to thee we give. 4 To thy sure love, thy tender care,

Our flesh, soul, spirit, we resign; O fix thy sacred presence there,

And seal the abode forever thine.

11 The creation invited to praise God.

23-6. TROM all that dwell below the skies,

Let the Creator's praise arise; Let the Redeemer's name be sung,

Through every land, by every tongue. 2 Eternal are thy mercies, Lord;

Eternal truth attends thy word : Thy praise shall sound from shore to shore,

Till suns shall rise and set no more. 3 Your lofty themes, ye mortals, bring;

In songs of praise divinely sing; The great salvation loud proclaiin,

And shout for joy the Saviour's name. 4 In every land begin the song;

To every land the strains belong; In cheerful sounds all voices raise,

And fill the world with loudest praise.

Immanuel, God with us. 38-a. ETERNAL depth of love divine,

In Jesus, God with us, display'd ; How bright thy beaming glories shine!

How wide thy healing streams are spread ! 2 With whom dost thou delight to dwell ?

Sinners, a vile and thankless race! O God, what tongue aright can tell

How vast thy love, how great thy grace !

On earth establish his abode ? And will he, from his radiant throne, Accept our temples for his own ? 2 These walls we to thy honour raise ; Long may they echo to thy praise : And thou, descending, fill the place With choicest tokens of thy grace. 3 Here let the great Redeemer reign, With all the graces of his train ; While power divine his word attends, To conquer foes, and cheer his friends. 4 And in the great decisive day, When God the nations shall survey, May it before the world appear That crowds were born to glory here.

4 Thy temple is the arch

Of yon unmeasured sky; Thy Sabbath, the stupendous march

Of vast eternity. 5 Lord, may that holier day

Dawn on thy servants’ sight; And purer worship may we pay

In heaven's unclouded light.

The song of Moses and the Lamb. A WAKE, and single the among

the Lamb; Wake, every heart and every tongue,

To praise the Saviour's Name. 2 Sing of his dying love;

Sing of his rising power; Sing how he intercedes above

For those whose sins he bore. 3 Ye pilgrims, on the road

To Zion's city, sing ;
Rejoice ye in the Lamb of God,-

În Christ, the eternal King.
4 Soon shall we hear him say,-

Ye blessed children, come; Soon will he call us hence away,

To our eternal home. 5 There shall each raptured tongue

His endless praise proclaim; And sweeter voices tune the song

Of Moses and the Lamb.

Our debt paid upon the cross. 149--a. WHAT majesty and grace

Through all the gospel shine ! 'Tis God that speaks, and we confess

The doctrine most divine. 2 Down from his throne on high,

The mighty Saviour comes; Lays his bright robes of glory by,

And feeble flesh assumes. 3 The debt that sinners owed,

Upon the cross he pays : Then through the clouds ascends to God,

'Midst shouts of loftiest praise. 4 There our High Priest appears,

Before his Father's throne; Mingles his merits with our tears,

And pours salvation down. 5 Great Sov'reign, we adore

Thy justice and thy grace,
And on thy faithfulness and power

Our firm dependence place.

Myself, my residue of days,

I consecrate to thee. 2 Thy ransom'd servant, I

Restore to thee thine own; And from this moment live or die,

To serve my God alone.

1108 The solemn midnight cry.

143-b. THOU Judge of quick and dead,

Before whose
With holy joy or guilty dread,

We all shall soon appear ;
Our caution'd souls prepare

For that tremendous day,
And fill us now with watchful care,

And stir us up to pray:
2 To pray and wait the hour,

That awful hour unknown,
When, robed in majesty and power,

Thou shalt from heaven come down,
The' immortal Son of man,

To judge the human race,
With all thy Father's dazzling train,

With all thy glorious grace. 3 To damp our earthly joys,

To increase our gracious fears, Forever let the archangel's voice

Be sounding in our ears The solemn midnight cry,-,

Ye dead, the Judge is come; Arise, and meet him in the sky,

And meet your instant doom. 4 O may we all be found

Obedient to thy word, Attentive to the trumpet's sound,

And looking for our Lord. () may we thus ensure

A lot among the blest ;
And watch a moment to secure

An everlasting rest.

603 Morning: The day-star from on 134-1

high. WE TE lift our hearts to thee,

O Day-star from on high ! The sun itself is but thy shade,

Yet cheers both earth and sky. 2 O let thy rising beams

The night of sin disperse, The mists of error and of vice,

Which shade the universe. 3 How beauteous nature now;

How dark and sad before; With joy we view the pleasing change,

And nature's God adore. 4 O may no gloomy crime

Pollute the rising day ;
Or Jesus' blood, like evening dew,

Wash all the stains away. 5 May we this life improve,

To mourn for errors past;
And live this short revolving day

As if it were our last.

3 Faith cries out,- It is the Lord,

Let him do as seems him good! Be thy holy name adored;

Take the gift awhile bestow'd: Take the child no longer mine : Thine he is, forever thine.

423 The Light of Life.
2 Dark and cheerless is the morn,

Unaccompanied by thee;
Joyless is the day's return,

Till thy mercy's beams I see:
Till thou inward life impart,
Glad my eyes, and warm my heart.
3 Visit then this soul of mine;

Pierce the gloom of sin and grief;
Fill me, Radiancy divine;

Scatter all my unbelief:." More and more thyself display, Shining to the perfect day. 637

Death of a child. WH THEREFORE should I make my moan,

Now the darling child is dead ?
He to early rest is gone,-

He to paradise is fled:
I shall go to him, but he
Never shall return to me.
2 God forbids his longer stay;

God recalls the precious loan;
God hath taken him away,

From my bosom to his own: Surely what he wills is best; Happy in his will I rest.

340
What sin hath done.

176-6. EARTS of stone, relent, relent!

Break, by Jesus' cross subdued;
See his body mangled, rent,

Stain'd and cover'd with his blood i
Sinful soul, what hast thou done ?
Crucified the eternal Son.
2 Yes, thy sins have done the deed;

Driven the nails that fix'd him there
Crown'd with thorns his sacred head;

Plunged into his side the spear;
Made his soul a sacrifice,
While for sinful man he dies.
3 Wilt thou let him bleed in vain ?

Still to death thy Lord pursue ?
Open all his wounds again,

And the shameful cross renew? No; with all my sins I'll part; Saviour, take

my

broken heart.
