The great rarity of this first edition is proved by the fact that both Baron Seillière and the Earl of Crawford had only the reprint of Pamplona, 1591, that Mr. Beckford had only the edition of 1543, and that Don José Miro had only an imperfect copy.

1552-61

This was the only copy of the eight books which had passed through the market, before the Sunderland sale, having belonged, in a very imperfect state, to Colbert, Fleurieu and Heber, in succession. In 1835 it passed into the possession of the late Earl of Crawford (then Lord Lindsay, about twenty years of age), by whom it was completed.

(Kralitz) 1579-1601

First Edition of the Bohemian Version made for the Moravians, and privately printed by Baron John de Zerotjen at Kralitz, near his Castle of Namust in Moravia. It is excessively rare, because after the expulsion of Frederic V it was rigidly suppressed by the Jesuits, and nearly all the copies destroyed. The copy belonging to the Duke of Sussex sold for £46.

This excessively rare edition, which forms one of the Aldine Series, was never seen by Renouard, who, in his Annales des Alde, erroneously mentions it on the authority of inexact bibliographers as a Liber Precum sive Liturgia Mozarabica. It is fully described by Brunet, Vol. I, col. 1236, from this copy, which formerly belonged to Klaproth. Only one other copy of this precious work is known, namely, that which sold for £41 in Mr. Heber's sale, and was resold in Bishop Butler's for £33. 12s.
