Preface

HERE is nothing easier to offer than an excuse.

Christ's parable of the men who made excuses as to why they could not come to a feast to which they were invited. In many cases, there is no moral question involved in excusing one's self from taking part in some affair or from joining an organization, personal like or dislike and the freedom of choice being the only factors involved.

But this is not always so. To offer an excuse for not becoming a Christian is to take a course that will have the most far-reaching effect for eternity. Yet what a host there are who have set up a wall of excuses between themselves and Christianity! In all fairness, it should be said that some of these excuses are made in sincerity.

In view of the proverb that there is nothing new under the sun, it is not difficult to list the principal excuses. This is what the author has done in this book. Twenty-five of the most common ones are examined in a simple, straightforward fashion that can not fail to convince. The author has had long years of evangelistic experience both in America and in the Orient, and knows whereof he speaks.

The publishers of this book believe that it may be read with profit by two distinct classes of people,- by the man who sincerely offers an excuse for not being a Christian, and by the gospel worker who desires to learn how best to meet the objections raised by unbelievers. THE PUBLISHERS.
