Good, solid, no-nonsense overview of calligraphic flourishing and swashes. I feel the author made a very minor mistake on page 60, attributing the cadel to Nicolas Flamel. All of my research shows that the Duc de Berry (d. 1416) had a 'librarian' named Jean Flamel. This is the man who 'invented' cadels (Fr. cadeaux.) A contemporary of the Duc and Jean, was indeed a fellow named Nicolas Flamel, but Nicolas seems to have been involved more with alchemy.
