for ever: 21 And gave their land for an heritage : for his mercy endureth for ever: 22 Even an heritage unto Israel his servant: for his mercy endureth for ever. 23 Who remembered us in our low estate: for his mercy endureth for ever. 24 And hath redeemed us from our enemies: for his mercy endureth for ever. 25 Who giveth food to all flesh: for his mercy endureth for ever. 26 O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for his mercy endureth for ever.

1 The constant affection of the Jews in captivity to their desolate country. 7 Edom and Babylon are cursed.

BY the rivers of Babylon, * there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion. - - 2 We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof. 3 For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion. - 2 4 How shall we sing the LoRD's song in a strange land? 5 If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning. 6 If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof

God’s all-seeing providence.

7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me : thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me. 8 The LoRD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.

1 David acknowledgeth God’s all-seeing providence : 14 he praises him for the wonders of his formation; 17 and for his infinite mercies : 19 his confidence in the destruction of the wicked ; 21 his professed hatred of them : 23 he prayeth for God’s inspection and gui

dance. - "[To the chief Musician, A Psalm of

David. LORD, thou hast searched 'me, and known me.

2 Thou knowest my down-sit

derstandest my thought afar off 3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted mith all my ways. 4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. 5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it. 7 Whither shall I go from thy Spirit? or whither shall I

flee from thy presence? "

morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; 10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. 11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me ; even the night shall be light about me. 12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee. 13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. 14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

15 My substance was not hid

from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, nyhich in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there nas none of them. 17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! 18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand : when I awake, I am still with thee. 19 Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men. 20 For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies

take thy name in vain.

1 David prayeth God to deliver him from the

mischief of his enemies, 8 to frustrate their devices, and turn their evil upon themselves :

12 his confidence in God's vindication of the poor man's cause.

"To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. ELIVER me, O LorD, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man; 2 Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war. 3 They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent ; adders' poison is under their lips. Selah. - - 4 Keep me, O LoRD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to over

throw my goings.

5 The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set gins for me. Selah.

6 Isaid unto the LoRD, Thou art my God: hear the voice of my supplications, O LORD.

7 O GoD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou

his enemies, and that

hast covered my head in the day of battle. 18 Grant not, O Lord, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah. 9 As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them. 10 Let burning coals fall upon them; let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again. 11 Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him. 12 I know that the LoRD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor. 13 Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.

works with men that work inquity: and let me not eat of their dainties. 5 Let the righteous smite me; Żt shall be a kindness: and let

him reprove me ; it shall be an

excellent oil, ovhich shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities. 6 When their judges are overthrown in stony places, they shall hear my words; for they are SWeet. . 7 Our bones are scattered at the grave's mouth, as when one cutteth and cleaveth nood upon the earth. 8 But mine eyes are unto thee, O GoD the Lord : in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute. 9 Keep me from the snare which they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity. 10 Let the wicked fall into their own nets, whilst that I withal escape.

*| A Psalm of David. EAR my prayer, O Lord, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer

me, and in thy righteousness. 2 And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy sight shall no man living be justified. 3 For the enemy hath persecuted my soul; he hath smitten my life down to the ground; he hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have

been long dead.

4 Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed within me; my heart

help and deliverance,

5 I remember the days of old, I meditate on all thy works; I

muse on the work of thy hands.

6 I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land. Selah. 7 Hear me speedily, O Lord: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit. 8 Cause me to hearthy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee. 9 Deliver me, O Lord, from mine enemies: I flee unto thee to hide me. 10 Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thySpirit is good; lead mé into the land of uprightness. 11 Quicken me, O Lord, for thy name's sake : for thy righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble. 12 And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant.
