PSALM 145. (1ST PART.) C. M.

Praise to God for his loving-kindness and truth.

I THEE I'll extol, my God and King,
Thy endless praise proclaim;
This tribute daily will I bring,
And ever bless thy name.

2 Thou, Lord! beyond compare art great,
And highly to be praised;
Thy majesty, with boundless height,
Above our knowledge raised.

3 Renown'd for mighty acts, thy fame
To future times extends;

From age to age thy glorious name
Successively descends.

4 The praise that to thy love belongs,
I will with joy proclaim;
Thy truth of all my grateful songs
Shall be the constant theme.

PSALM 145. (2D PART.) L. M.

God's mercies over all his works.

1 THE Lord is gracious to forgive,
And slow to let his anger move;
The Lord is good to all that live,
For all his tender mercy prove.

2 Thy works, O Lord! thy praise proclaim;
The saints thy wondrous deeds shall sing,
Extol thy power, and to thy name
Homage from every nation bring.

3 Glorious in Majesty art Thou;
Thy throne for ever shall endure;
Angels before thy footstool bow,
Yet dost Thou not forget the poor.

4 The Lord upholdeth them that fall,
He raiseth men of low degree;
Behold, O God! the eyes of all,
Of all the living, wait on Thee.

PSALM 145. (3D PART.) C. M.

Praise to God for his holiness and justice.

1 How holy is the Lord, how just,
How righteous all his ways!
How nigh to him, who with firm trust,
For his assistance prays!

2 He grants the full desires of those
Who him with fear adore;
And will their troubles soon compose,
When they his aid implore.

3 The Lord preserves all those with care
Whom grateful love employs ;
But sinners, who his vengeance dare,
In his just wrath destroys.

4 My time to come, in praises spent,
Shall still advance his fame;

And all mankind, with one consent,
For ever bless his name.

PSALM 146. c. M.

Praise to God for his goodness and protection.

1 O PRAISE the Lord! and thou my soul For ever bless his name;

His wondrous love, while life shall last,
My constant praise shall claim.
2 Happy the man, who Jacob's God
For his protector takes;

Whose hope is in the Lord alone,
And him his refuge makes.

3 The Lord, who made both heaven and earth,
And all that they contain,
Will never quit his stedfast truth,
Nor make his promise vain.

4 By him the blind receive their sight,
The weak and fallen He rears,
Defends the fatherless, and poor,
And for the righteous cares.

PSALM 147. L. M.

Praise to God for his wonderful works.

1 PRAISE ye the Lord! 'tis good to raise
Our hearts and voices in his praise;
His nature and his works invite
To make this duty our delight.
2 The Lord builds up Jerusalem,
And gathers nations to his name;
His mercy melts the stubborn soul,
And makes the broken spirit whole.

3 He formed the stars, those heavenly flames, He counts their number, calls their names; His wisdom's vast, and knows no bound, A deep where all our thoughts are drown'd. 4 Great is our Lord! and great his might; And all his glories infinite:

He crowns the meek; rewards the just;
But treads the wicked to the dust.

PSALM 148. (1ST PART) P. M.
God worthy of universal praise.

YE boundless realms of joy,
Exalt your Maker's name;
In praise your songs employ
Above the starry frame;
Your voices raise, ye cherubim !
And seraphim! to sing his praise.

Thou moon, the queen of night!
Thou sun, the orb of day!
Ye glittering stars of light,
To him your homage pay:

His praise declare, ye heavens above,
And clouds that move in liquid air.

Let them adore the Lord,
And praise his holy name,
By whose almighty word
They all from nothing came;
And all shall last, from changes free,
His firm decree stands ever fast.

4

His chosen saints to grace,
He lifts to thrones on high;
And favours Israel's race,
Who still to him are nigh;

O therefore raise your grateful voice,
And still rejoice the Lord to praise.

PSALM 148. (2D PART.) P. M.

Exhortation to universal praise.

1 PRAISE the Lord! ye heavens adore him,
Praise him, angels! in the height,
Sun and moon rejoice before him,
Praise him all ye stars and light.

2 Praise the Lord! for He hath spoken, Worlds his mighty voice obey'd; Laws which never shall be broken,

For their guidance hath He made.

3 Praise the Lord! for He is glorious,
Never shall his promise fail;
God hath made his saints victorious,
Sin and death shall not prevail.

4 Praise the God of our salvation!
Hosts on high his power proclaim;
Heaven and earth, and all creation,
Laud and magnify his name.
