Richmond papers of to-day received. The following items are sent:

FROM NORTH CAROLINA.

There was a rumor on the streets yesterday that General Johnston had attacked Sherman in his intrenchments at Bentonville and driven him out of them. We have received no official intelligence confirmatory of the rumor, and for this and other reasons doubt that there is foundation to it.

The Examiner says that the hotels of Richmond, some six or seven, are now reduced to two-the Spotswood and American. The scantiness of the markets and the high prices of provisions have necessitated the closing of all save the two hotels named, whose proprietors are strugling against the adverse circumstances of the times to keep their houses open.

GENERAL: I have kept Lieutenant Dunn over to-day that I might report further. All the army is now in save the cavalry, which I have posted at Mount Olive Station south of the Neuse, and General Terry's *For Correspondence, etc., from January 1, 1865, to March 23, 1865, see Part II.
