THE following Sermon is printed exactly as it was delivered at St. Mary's, Cambridge, before His Royal Highness the CHANCELLOR, and the University of Cambridge, with the exception of the paragraph from p. 20 to p. 22, beginning "Nor are we," &c. which was omitted for the sake of brevity. I have accompanied it with Notes, tending to elucidate or unfold some points connected with the subject. I should not have added these, of course, had I not thought them interesting, and endeavoured to make them useful. They are chiefly on the highly important subjects of Methodism and the Catholic Question. They may perhaps excite a clamour from violent or enthusiastic sectarians; but I look only to the approbation of the enlightened and temperate, whose praise will be my highest reward. S. B. |
