But he willingly acknowledges special obligation to the contemporary commentaries of Mason and Jacob Bryant, as also to the modern editions of the Rev. R. A. Wilmott and the Rev. G. Gilfillan, and more specially to the commentaries of Gray himself upon the respective Odes, and which have, for the most part, been quoted literally.
