PREFACE.

THE writer's object in this work is to add to the evidences of Christianity demonstrations of its Divine origin from the fulfilment of Prophecy, the close adaptation of Types to their antitypes, and the reality of Miracles.

The work is therefore divided into three distinct parts;-Prophecy, Types, and Miracles; and each head has received a separate consideration. The arrangement of the Prophecies has never, the Author believes, been carried to so large an extent. The object of

that division is to select the most illustrious of those which relate to the Messiah,-to place in juxta-position their fulfilment, and to make elucidations necessary to their explanation. The most remarkable facts also in the Biblical narrative, which ancient and modern divines have accounted to be typical of the Messiah, have also been brought out into Antitypical detail; and as a summary to the whole, the veracity of the miracles has been established by external and internal

circumstances.

Whatever opinions have been advanced in this work, the Author has endeavoured to substantiate them by Scripture, as the many references' will testify; and he recommends the student in Theology especially to read this work, with his Bible by his side, that he may turn to the portions of Scripture, and certify himself how they bear upon the subject.

Several thousand.
