One of the young masters, named Bruce, is amongst the hounds. He is persuaded to give up his scholastic duties and join the army. He soon wins a reputation in the Secret Service Department, serves in Burmah, and after doing capital service, returns to England. At this time the revolt in Egypt breaks out, and Bruce is attached to the squadron which shells and takes Alexandria. He undertakes many dangerous and important missions during the war, and meets with adventure after adventure in the performance of his duties. The story concludes with a visit of the master to his old school, who once again runs with the boys in a paper chase.
