[This extremely rare production of Caxton's press is the first edition of the Polychronicon in English. This copy wanted altogether 46 leaves, according to Blades' collation, which includes blanks. It was a very fair copy, but numerous contemporary MS. notes in margins in red and black inks, and the capitals painted in red. It had also some interesting autographs; on reverse of fol. lxx, "John Estcourt"; several signatures of the Poyntz family; Anthony Porbery, 1655; "This book was new bound by one Rede of Worcester, June, 1660, Richard Furney," etc.; formerly Thos. Jolley's copy, with his Ex-Libris.—Catalogue.]

These cancels were said by Lowndes to be found only in the Hanrott copy, afterwards Heber's, in whose sale it realised £14 10s. None of the other copies in this collection had these extremely rare leaves. Catalogue.]
