1

Happy Christian, God's own child,

Called, chosen, reconcil'd!

Once a rebel full of taint,

Now a dutious, humble saint!

2

Happy Christian, look on high,

See thy portion in the sky!
Fix'd by everlasting love,

Who that portion can remove!

3

Happy Christian, though the earth
Cannot know thy gracious worth,
Yet thy God shall soon proclaim
Through all Heaven thy blessed name.

4

Happy Christian, angels say,
Hither, brother come away-
Leave the world and all its woes,

Taste with us thy sweet repose.

5

Happy Christian, upward fly,
Rise, the kingdom now is nigh

Fill thy place before the throne

Which place God hath made thine own!

JANUARY.

1st.—AND he that sat upon the Throne

said, Behold, I make all things new. xxi. 5. Isa. xliii. 19. 2 Cor. v. 17.

Rev,

Thus another year is flown,
Now it is no more our own,
If it brought or promis'd good,
Than the years before the flood.
2d.-Jesus Christ the same yesterday,
and to-day, and for ever. Heb. xiii. 8.
John viii. 58. Heb. i. 12. Rev. i. 4.

Jesus! how pleasing is the sound,
How worthy of my love;
Why is my heart so lifeless found,
Why plac'd no more above?

3rd.-Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it and dung it. Luke xiii. 8.

Spare them, and let me try

What further means may do;
I'll fresh manure apply-
My digging I'll renew.

4th. At evening time there shall be light Zech. xiv. 7. Isa. xxxiii. 26. lx. 19, 20.

Is not some smiling hour at hand
With peace upon its wings?
Give it, O God, a swift command,
With all the joys it brings.

5th. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Prov. iii. 6. Jer. x. 23. 1 Chron. xxviii, 9.

Come, my soul, thy suit prepare,
Jesus loves to answer prayer;
He himself has bid thee pray,
Therefore cannot say thee nay.

6th.-Wait on the Lord: be of good courage; and he shall strengthen thine heart; wait, I say, on the Lord. Ps. xxvii. 14. Hab. ii. 1, 3. Heb. x. 37.

While I am a pilgrim here,
Let thy love my spirit cheer;
Be my guide, my guard, my friend,
Lead me to my journey's end.

7th.-Wouldest thou be

the King. 2 Kings iv. 13.

to make intercession for us.

8th.

spoken for to

He ever liveth

Heb. vii. 25.

Though crumbs are much too good,

For such a dog as I;

No less than children's food,

My soul can satisfy.

Fear not let not thine hands be

slack. Zeph. iii. 16. Heb. xii. 12.

While Moses stood with arms spread wide,
Success was found on Israel's side;

But when through weariness they fail'd,
That moment Amalek prevail'd.

9th. I am the resurrection and the life. John xi. 25. Col. iii. 4. Believest thou this? verse 26.

Believe, and lift thy drooping head,

Thy Saviour has the victory gain'd;
See all thy foes in triumph led,

And everlasting life obtain'd.

10th. The ransom'd of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads. Isa. xxxv. 10. liii. 12.

Jesus, the Lord! the mighty God,
An all-sufficient ransom paid;
Invalued price-his precious blood,
For vile rebellious traitors shed.

11th. They shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away. Isa. xxxv. 10. li. Î1.

This blissful word with joy replete,
Shall bid my gloomy fears retreat;
And heaven-born hope serenely bright,
Shine cheerful through this mortal night.

12th.-Fear thou not: for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God. Isa. xli. 10. Deut. xxxi. 6, 8.

Enough, my gracious Lord,

Let faith triumphant cry;

My heart can on his promise live,
Can on his promise die.
