the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces: and her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged." The truth of all this has been attested by persons who have visited the part where this famous city was situated. We are now convinced how exactly time has fulfilled the predictions relative to Babylon. Surely we, who have not only these wonderful prophecies, but also their completion, may with Daniel exclaim, "Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever, for wisdom and might are his;" and with David, "Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people." We cannot contemplate such a history as this without feeling the force of these words: "All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, what doest thou?" Dan. iv. 35.
