RECTOR OF HAMBLEDEN, BUCKS; LATE STUDENT OF CHRIST CHURCH, OXFORD AUTHOR OF 66 St. Luke and St. John RIVINGTONS London, Orford, and Cambridge TO THE MUCH BELOVED ELDER SISTER OF MY WIFE AT WHOSE INSTANCE IT WAS UNDERTAKEN This little Work is Dedicated IN TOKEN OF DEEP AFFECTION, HIGH ESTEEM AND CONTINUED SYMPATHY. W. H. R. PREFACE THESE pages pretend to nothing more than to be a help to those heads of families who may wish to give a few words of explanation and practical instruction to their children and servants, and who do not feel able to expound Scripture for themselves. The passage for each day is made short, in the hope that attention may be kept up while it is in reading. It surely is a mistake to try to occupy servants and young children for more than a very few minutes each day, especially when the one have been interrupted in their work, and the others are often anxious for their breakfast. If this Part, and that published at the same time with it on Genesis and Exodus, meet with a favourable reception, other Parts will follow, on the two remaining Gospels and other books of Holy Scripture. |
