of woodwork which are here delineated with consummate skill are by no means confined
to one class of article. Valuable as the book must be from a purely aesthetic point of
view, its commercial significance can hardly be looked on as less important. Wood-
carving is now a recognised branch of technical science, and is taught as such in
specially-equipped schools and colleges. To students attending these institutions, and
to designers and manufacturers everywhere, Mr. Small's book is bound to prove of
immense practical service. In the matter of production the volume leaves nothing to
be desired. The illustrations maintain throughout a very high degree of artistic
excellence; and paper, print, and binding are in harmony with the admirable drawings
of Mr. Small."-Publishers' Circular.

The most famous works of the great masters are here represented, as Sir Robert Strange's taste caused him to select the finest examples, principally from the works of the Italian school, as may be seen by the following summary :

Guido, 13 pictures; Raphael, 4; Guercino, 4; Titian, 4; Correggio, 2; Salvator Rosa, 2; Carlo Maratti, 2; Pietro di Cortona, 2. The Flemish Painters are also represented in the magnificent portraits of Vandyke, 5 pictures, and examples of Wouvermans and Vanloo.

This is without question one of the most magnificent series of engravings ever produced in England. For their beauty in the department of line engraving they are unrivalled.
