II. Baptism after Christ's resurrection. Matt. xxviii. 18, 19. All power is given unto me in heaven, and in earth. Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
Ver. 20. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you, and lo, I am with you always even unto the end of the world, Mark xvi. 16. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.
John üi. 5. Jesus said, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Acts ii. 38. Peter said, repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins.
Ver. 41. They that gladly received his word, were baptized. viii. 12. When those who had been deceived by Simon Magus believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
Ver. 13. Simon believed also and was baptized.
Acts viji. 36. The eunuch said to Philip, here is water, what hindereth me to be baptized.
Ver. 37. Philip said, if thou believest with all thine heart thou inayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
Ver. 38. And they went both down into the water, and Philip baptized him.
X. 47. Peter said, can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized which have received the Holy Ghost.
Ver. 48. And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.
xvi. 15. Lydia whose heart the Lord touched, and her houshold, were baptized.
Ver. 33. The jailor, and all his, were baptized. xix. 5. Some that had been baptized with John's baptism, were again baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
xxii. 16. Ananias said unto Saul, why tarriest thou ? Arise and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. Cb.ix. 18. And he arose and was baptized.
Rom. vi. 3. As many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ, were baptized into his death.
Ver. 4. Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death, that like as Christ was raised up from the dead, by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life,
1 Cor. i. 14. Paul baptized Crispus and Gaius. Ver. 16. He baptized also the house of Stephanus. Ver. 17. Christ sent him not to baptize but to preach the gospel.
xii. 13. By one Spirit we are all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, bond or free. · Gal. iii. 27. As many of you as have been baptized into Christ, have put on Christ.
Ver. 28. Ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

'Tit. iii. 5. He saved us by the washing of regeneration and renew. ing of the Holy Ghost.
Heb. vi. 1, 2. Baptism is one of the principles of the cloctrine of Christ, along with the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judg. ment.
1 Pet. iii. 20. In the ark eight persons were saved.
Ver. 21. The like figure wereunto baptism doth now sa ve us (not the putting away the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God, by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
THE LORD'S SUPPER. See The possover instituted to the Jews. Exod. Ch. xi. To be eaten by
all of them, even by some that were unclean, Numb. ix. 6 to 11, And was eaten by some such. 2 Chron. XXX, 18, 19.
i Cor. y. 7. Christ our passover is sacrificed for us, therefore let us keep the feast.
Ill. The institution of the Lord's Supper. Matt. xxvi. 26. As Jesus and his disciples were eating the passover, Jesus took bread and blessed it and brake it, and gave it to the disciples and said, take eat, this is my body. Like xxii. 19. Which is given for you, this do in remembrance of me.
Ver. 27. And he took the cup and gave thanks, and gave it to then saying, drink ye all of it.
Ver. 28. For this is my blood of the New Testament, which is shed for the remission of sins. .
Per. 29. But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruiiof the wine, until that day, when I drink it new with you in my Favier's kingdom. See the parallel places. Mark xiv. 22 to 25. Luke xxii. 14 to 21.
Saint Paul's account of the Lord's supper is-1 Cor. xi. 23. I have received of the Lord, that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus, the same night in which he was betrayed took bread,
Ver. 24. And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, take eat, this is my body which is broken for you, this do in remem. brance of me.
Ver. 25. Afier the same manner also he took the cup when he had supped, saying, this cup is the New Testament in my blood, this do ye as oft as ve drink it in remembrance of me.
Ver. 26. For as oft as ye eat this bread and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death tiil he come.
IV. It is to be received frequently. Acts ii. 42. The primitive Christians continued stedfastly in the apostles doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread and prayers.
xx. 7. On the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them. Ver. 11.
V. It is to be received with suitable preparation. I Cor. y. 7. Purge. out the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump as ye are unleavened : for even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us.
I Cor. y. 8. Therefore let us keep the feast, not with the old lea. ven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
X. 3. Our fathers did all eat the same spiritual meat.
Ver. 4. And did all drink the same spiritual drink, (for they drank of that spiritual rock that followed them, and that rock was Christ.)
I Cor. x. 5. With many of them God was not well pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
Ver. 6. These things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things as they lusted.
Ver. 7. Neither be ye idolaters as some of them were. Ver. 8. Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them did. Ver. 9. Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them tempted. * Ver. 10. Neither murmur, as some of them murmured. Ver. 14. Flee from idolatry.
Ver. 16. The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ ? the bread which we break is it not the communion of the body of Christ?
Ver. 17. For we being many are one bread, and one body, for we are all partakers of that one bread.
Ver. 20. The things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils and not to God, and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.
Ver. 21. Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils, ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.
Ver. 31. Whether ye eat or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
Ver. 32. Give none offence, to Jews nor to Gentiles,•nor to the church of God.
xi. 27. Whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. · I Cor. xi. 28. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup..
Ver. 29. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. See abuses of this ordinance committed by the Corinthians reproved and threatened in this Chap. from ver. 17 to 23, and from ver. 30 to 32. See Mal. i. 7. The wicked say, the table of the Lord is contemptible.

N. B. The preparation required to the acceptable receiving the Lord's
supper, are those same qualifications that are required in acceptable prayer, which see at large in the chap. upon prayer. The sins for which men ought to be excluded from this ordinance, are the same sins persisted in, for which the sacred scriptures allow that they should be excluded from Christian society, ani declare that such shall be excluded out of the kingdom of heaven ; which see in the various characters of sinners, and threats against them. Also see, Persons that cannot enter into the kingdom of God; and, Persons that shall be cast into the lake of fire.

1. THE Spirit's influences upon the material qnd animal creation. Gen. i. 2. The Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. Job xxvi. 13. By his Spirit he hath garnished the heavens.
xxxii. 8. There is a spirit in man, and the inspiration of the Al. mighty giveth understanding
xxxiii. 4. The Spirit of God hath made me.
xxxiv. 14. If he gather unto himself his Spirit and his breath, all flesh shall perish together.

II. "The Spirit's influences upon the minds of mankind. Upon the prophets.
Numb. xi. 25. The Spirit rested upon the seventy elders, and they prophesied.
Ver. 26. The Spirit of the Lord rested upon Edad and Medad, and they prophesied.
Ver. 29. Moses said, would to God, that all the Lord's people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his Spirit upon them.
Numb. xxiv. 2. The Spirit of the Lord came upon Balaam, and he took up his parable and said, &c.
1 Sam. x. 10. The Spirit of the Lord came upon Saul, and he pra phesied. Ch. xix. 23.
xix. 20. The Spirit of the Lord was upon the messengers of Saul, and they prophesied.

Acts. i. 16. This scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which' the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David, spake concerning Judas.
xi. 28. Agabus signified by the Spirit, that there should be a great dearth, which came to pass in the days of Claudius Cæsar,
xxi. 11. Agabus said, thus saith the Spirit,so shall the Jews at Jertsalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, xxviii, 25. Well spake the Holy Ghost * E: hs the prophet.
I Tim. iv. l. The Spirit speaketh expressly time in the latter days some shall depart from the faith.
Isa. ix. 8. The Holy Ghost thus signifying, that the way into the holiest, was not yet made manifest.
1 Pet. i. 10. Of which salvation the prophets enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you.
Ver. 11. Searching diligently what, or what' manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
1 Pet. i. 12. Who preached the gospel with the Holy Ghost sent, down from heaven. !

III. The Spirit's influences upon Jesus Christ; the formation of his body. Matt. i. 18. Mary was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
Ver. 20. That which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
Luke i. 35. The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the pow. er of the Highest shall overshadow thee, therefore also, that holy thing that shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
