GEO. B. SCOTT'S BOND STREET SHERRY

ANALYTICAL REPORTS
REPORTS AND MEDICAL
AND MEDICAL TESTIMONIALS.

For the satisfaction of those who think that Wines sold by the Trade in this country are largely adulterated, and even entirely manufactured, a very minute and thoroughly favourable analysis of the BOND STREET SHERRY, by an eminent analyst proving that this Wine is entirely the product of Grapes, can be seen in the original at the Office of the Importer, 7, Bond Street, Leeds.

But the Importer of the BOND STREET SHERRY is not desirous of placing its claims to the notice and support of the public upon any such ground as favourable analytical reports or medical testimonials. For, apart from the abuses to which the system of giving analytical reports and medical testimonials for advertising purposes is manifestly open, it is a fact that the wine analyst cannot determine real value in Wines.

It is true that a skilled analyst can detect in Wines substances foreign to the produce of the Grape-if there should be any.

But it is equally true that such manufactured or adulterated Wines scarcely exist in the Trade, for the reason that in the wine-growing countries of Europe Wines made from common or inferior Grapes, and yet chemically pure as Wines, are so prolifically produced that it would bother very skilful people indeed to manufacture anything of a Wine character at so cheap a cost.

It is to Wine Merchants generally somewhat amusing to see portentous announcements, advertised in every direction, that some Wine has been submitted to analysis, and, most wonderful to say, has been found to be purely the produce of the Grape. Take the commonest and cheapest Wine that any respectable wine merchant has in stock and analyse it, and it will be found to be the same.

The fact is, the real Wine Question for the public is not one of Pure Wine versus Adulterated or Manufactured Wine, but of Good Matured WINE against Common UNMATURED WINE-chemically speaking one being quite as pure as the other.

And Wine Analysts fail just where they are most wanted. Those delicate qualities, those subtle aethers, developed alone by age from Wine made from choice Grapes and bottled with care, and which give the real value to it, its style, bouquet, and aroma seem to be quite beyond the determining power of the analyst.

At any rate it is a fact that beyond being able to ascertain whether a Wine has or has not anything in it foreign to the produce of the Grape, Wine Analysts seem to be useless. If any one should think these remarks too depreciatory of Wine Analytical Reports, let him get the most favourable one that he can find of an undoubtedly fine valuable Spanish Sherry, and I will point out to him another analytical report, equally as favourable, made by an eminent English analyst, the subject being Sherry made in Hamburg-the kind and quality of which preclude it from being found in my stock-but which those who do keep it can sell at a fair profit at from 15/- to 16/- per doz. The Importer of the BOND STREET SHERRY advances its claim to the consideration. and support of the public upon the ground that

IT IS REALLY A MUCH HIGHER-CLASS WINE AND MORE MATURED THAN CAN BE USUALLY OBTAINED AT THE PRICE.

Compared with the retail price it is offered at here, an exceedingly high price is given for it in Spain; and it is selected with all the care and discrimination the Importer can bring to bear, so as to get the best Old Wine possible for the price given. It is then further matured by being kept a considerable time in England in a carefully guarded temperature before bottling, so as to have it in fine condition to go out to the public. It has been submitted many times to some of the best judges of Sherry in the Trade, and pronounced always at higher value than the Importer really offers it at. It is sold at this price strictly for Cash only. It is a Wine that may be fairly classed and put in comparison with Wines sold at from 45s. to 50s. per dozen.
