IMPROVEMENT-continued, perpetual Improvement is the order of our day. About twenty years ago, the Editor of the Children's Magazine published his first number, which then contained twelve pages, and two or three pictures; this year he has given above three times as many pages, and above twice as many pictures! Next year he proposes to make still further improvements-the pages will be larger, and will contain upwards of Fifteen Thousand more letters!

When a boy, the Editor remembers with what greediness he devoured the contents of all the books he could meet with, from the trashy tales about "Jack the Giant Killer," to the wonderful adventures of "Robinson Crusoe !" But most of these books were of an injurious character, and very mischievous in their tendency. How altered-and it is one of the most promising signs of the timesand how improved, very much improved, is our Literature for Children. Oh how would the writer have rejoiced in his juvenile days to have had such a monthly visitor as the Children's Magazine, with its tales, and poetry, and pictures! His penny would have been always ready. His tender mother would have sat at her domestic duties and heard him read with more than her usual satisfaction and delight. May British children of the present generation, and their parents too, learn to value the advantages they now enjoyadvantages greater than ever were enjoyed by any generation from the beginning of the world!
