The Supernumerary Lieut. in the 84th Reg. is brought on the eftablifhment by the death of Licutenant W. Maughan; 5th Nov. 1799.

It being notified to the Commander in Chief of India, that the promotions of Capt. Lieut. W. O'Brien, from the 12th Foot, to be Captain of a Company, without purchase, and of Lieut. T. Howard, from the 8th Foot, to be Captain Lieut. without purchase, in the 72d Reg., have not been confirmed by his Majelly, it is directed that thofe Officers do return to and re-affume the fituations they formerly held in thofe corps; and Lieut. L. C. Hooke, who was removed from the 52d to the 50th Reg. in fucceffion to Licut. Howard, is therefore ordered to proceed to England to join his former corps.

The Commander in Chief, in order to remedy as far as he can the inconveniencies that would refult to the fervice and to the Officers concerned, from annulling the different promotions and appointments which have taken place in the 12th, 73d, and 74th Regiments, fubfequent to the removal of Captain Lieut. W. O'Brien from the 10th to the 72d Reg., is pleafed to make the following arrangement.

12th Foot.-Capt. Lieut. W. O'Brien to be confidered as a Supernumerary Captain, in the room of Capt. J. Allen, deccafed; 24th April 1799..

The Promotion of Lieut. W. Macpherfon from the 73d Reg. to be Captain Lieut. in the 12th, and that of Enfign W..Williams from the 74th, to be Lieut. in the 73d, vice Macpherson, together with the appointment of Mr. J.
