Is John's Gospel True? This study demonstrates that the Gospel attributed to John gives an inaccurate account of the life and teaching of Jesus. It shows that this Gospel was finished during a fierce conflict between the Johannine community and the Jewish community. During this conflict, the Johannine community hailed Jesus as God, and declared that the Jews were children of the devil. They attributed their beliefs to Jesus, and portrayed him as quarrelling with the Jews as they did. Consequently, this document is fiercely anti-Jewish and has been used to fuel anti-semitism - reasons for the author to challenge the fitness of John's Gospel to be in anyone's sacred scriptures. |
