An innovation, and one which might be followed with good effect, was the souvenir provided by the local brethren. Instead of the usual ornate badge, to be worn at the session and then laid away and forgotten, each representative was given a sealed envelope, upon application to the Credential Committee. Each of these contained a plain serviceable ribbon badge, a set of coupon tickets entitling the holder to a trip over the street railway lines to Black Hawk's Watch Tower, a romantic resort on the Illinois side, and an aluminumcovered memoranda book. This latter bore upon one side the emblems of the fraternity and upon the other this inscription: "June, 1901-Grand Lodge Session. Compliments of Davenport Lodge, No. 37; Trinity Lodge, No. 208; Fraternal Lodge, No. 271, of Davenport, Iowa." This little book contained the official program and other information as to the city and its surroundings. It is a souvenir of lasting value, and will be treasured by those so fortunate as to obtain them.

Rain on the evening of Wednesday interfered with the trolley excursion to the Watch Tower, just mentioned. Many, however, dared the storm, and were rewarded by the pleasure of the occasion.

The brethren of Davenport were loyally aided in their task of entertainment by the ladies of the Eastern Star Chapter. The individual members gave freely of their time and the organization of its finances to add to the pleasure of the visitors. On Tuesday evening these ladies presented "Female Masonry," a farce, improved and rewritten, to which all interested were invited. It afforded wholesome and harmless amusement, and was greatly appreciated.

There is so much of interest in and about the three citiesattractions appealing to every taste that only complete exhaustion could bring the visitors to a rest outside the hours of the session.

The press of Davenport, also, is to be congratulated on the efforts made to give clear reports of such features as might be made public. The reporters caught the happy knack of say

ing good things of those in attendance, and many a good brother went home pleased because a newspaper man had jollied him or told a story on him in a way that left no sting.

The Grand Lodge of Iowa can in the future look for no better entertainment, and other cities who aspire to the honor and the labor can learn much from the hard-working Masons who made the meeting in Davenport such a conspicuous suc

cess.
