Edinburgh, Abbotsford Club, 1854 the same, 4to. PRINTED ON VELLUM, UNIQUE, unbound, £7. 7s 1854 22817 HAWKINS' SILVER COINS OF ENGLAND, arranged and described with Remarks on British Money, previous to the Saxon Dynasties, by E. HAWKINS, Keeper of Coins and Antiquities in the British Museum, revised and enlarged by R. LI. KENYON, ESQ. thick 8vo. 55 plates containing figures of about 650 Coins, by F. W. Fairholt and F. J. Lees, half morocco, 36s 1876

A new edition of Mr. Hawkins' "Silver Coins of England" being greatly required, the present has been undertaken by Mr. R. L. Kenyon, a grandson of Mr. Hawkins. Considerable alterations and additions have been found necessary, in order to incorporate in the text all the information on the subject which has been acquired since the year 1841, when the book was first published. Among other things, the numerous new types of the contemporaries of Alfred, found at Cuerdale in 1842, are described in this edition; Coins are found attributed to King John, the Empress Matilda, the Earl of Warwick, etc., and the parts relating to British coins, to the short cross pennies attributed to Henry II, and the Coins of Henry IV, V, and VI, have been entirely re-written. Some new plates by Mr. J. F. Lees, Member of the Numismatic Society, which have been added, contain nearly 100 additional coins, and it is hoped that the new edition will worthily maintain the reputation of the old one. Only a small edition has been printed.

The Companion to Hawkins's SILVER Coins of England.

22818 HISTORY of the GOLD COINAGE of ENGLAND, by R. LL. KENYON, Editor of the second edition of Hawkins's Silver Coins of England, 1 vol. demy 8vo. (uniform with the work of Hawkins), 24 plates, engraved by F. J. LEES, Roxburghe, gilt top, 24s 1883

This work contains a complete account of the English current gold coins, trom the earliest Saxon times to the present reign, with 200 illustrations and includes a description of gold coins attributed to the first half of the seventh century. It is uniform with the second edition of Hawkins' Silver Coins, described above. It is hoped that the light which an examination of the gold coins throws upon the poor appropriation of the silver, as, for instance, in the reigns of Henry V and VI, and of Edward V, together with the information about the history of the coinage which this volume contains, may make it acceptable to collectors, even though their cabinets may not contain a great number of gold coins.
