12 Und Er hat seine Worfschaufel in feiner Hand; er wird seine Tenne fegen und den Weizen in seine Scheune fammeln, aber die Spreu wird er verbrennen mit ewigem Feuer.

13 Zu der Zeit kam Jesus aus Galiläa an den Jordan zu Johanne, daß er sich von ihm taufen ließe.

14 Aber Johannes wehrete ihm, und sprach: Ich bedarf wohl, daß ich von Dir getauft werde; und Du tommst zu mir?

15 Jesus aber antwortete, und sprach zu ihm: Laß es jetzt also seyn; also gebühret es uns alle Gerechtigkeit zu erfüllen. Da ließ er es ihm zu.

16 Und da Jesus getauft war, stieg er bald heraus aus dem Wasser; und siehe, da that sich der Himmel auf über ihm. Und Johannes sah den Geist Gottes, gleich als eine Taube, herab fahren, und über ihn kommen.

17 Und siehe, eine Stimme vom Himmet herab sprach: Dieß ist mein lieber Sohn, an welchem ich Wohlgefallen habe.

2 Und da er vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte gefastet hatte, hungerte ihn.

12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

14 But John forbade him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

17 And lo, a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

CHAPTER IV.

was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungered.

Es stehet geschrieben: Der Mensch lebet nicht vom Brod allein; sondern von einem jeglichen Worte, das durch den Mund Gottes gehet.

5 Da führete ihn der Teufel mit sich in die heilige Stadt, und stellete ihn auf die Zinne des Tempels,

6 Und sprach zu ihm: Bist du Gottes Sohn, so laß dich hinab; denn es stehet geschrieben: Er wird seinen Engeln über dir Befehl thun, und sie werden dich auf den Händen tragen, auf daß du deinen Fuß nicht an einen Stein stoßest.

7 Da sprach Jesus zu ihm: Wiederum stehet auch geschrieben: Du sollst Gott, deinen Herrn, nicht versuchen.

8 Wiederum führete ihn der Teufel mit sich auf einen sehr hohen Berg, und zeigte ihm alle Reiche der Welt und ihre Herrlichkeit;

9 Und sprach zu ihm: Dies alles will ich dir geben, so du niederfällst, und mich anbetest.

10 Da sprach Jesus zu ihm: Hebe dich weg von mir. Satan; denn es ftehet geschrieben: Du sollst anbeten Gott, deinen Herrn, und ihm allein dienen.

11 Da verließ ihn der Teufel; und fiche, da traten die Engel zu ihm, und dieneten ihm.

12 Da nun Jesus hörete, daß Johannes überantwortet war, zog er in das galiläische Land;

13 Und verließ die Stadt Nazareth, kam und wohnete zu Capernaum, die da liegt am Meere, an den Grenzen Zabulon und Nephthalim,

14 Auf daß erfüllet würde, das da gefagt ist durch den Propheten Jesaia, der da spricht:

15 Das Land Zabulon, und das Land Nephthalim, am Wege des Meers, jenseit des Jordans, und die heidnische Galiläa,

5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down, for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fa'l down and worship me.

10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

11 Then the devil leaveth him, and behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

12 T Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee;

13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea-coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim;

14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,

15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles:

20 Bald verließen sie ihre Netze, und folgten ihm nach.

21 Und da er von dannen weiter ging, sah er zween andere Brüder, Jakobum, den Sohn Zebedäi, und Johannem, seinen Bruder, im Schiffe, mit ihrem Vater Zebedão, daß sie ihre Netze flickten; und er rief sie.

22 Bald verließen sie das Schiff und ihren Vater, und folgten ihm nach.

23 Und Jesus ging umher im gan= zen galiläischen Lande, lehrete in ihren Schulen, und predigte das Evangelium von dem Reiche, und heilete allerleh Seuche und Krankheit im Volt.

24 Und sein Gerücht erscholl in das ganze Syrienland. Und sie brachten zu ihm allerley Kranke, mit mancherleh Seuchen und Quaal behaftet, die Besessenen, die Mondsüchtigen, und die Gichtbrüchigen; und er machte fie alle gesund.

25 Und es folgete ihm nach viel Volks aus Galiläa, aus den zehn Städten, von Jerusalem, aus dem jüdischen Lande, und von jenseit des Jordans.

18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishers.

19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fish

ers of men.

20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.

21 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets: and he called them.

22 And they immediately left the ship, and their father, and followed him.

23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness, and all manner of disease among the people.

24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.

25 And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judea, and from beyond Jordan.

CHAPTER V.

2 Und er that seinen Mund auf, lehrete sie, und sprach:

3 Selig sind, die da geistlich arm find; denn das Himmelreich ist ihr.

4 Selig sind, die da Leid tragen ;denn file sollen getröstet werden.

5 Selig sind die Sanftmüthigen ; denn sie werden das Erdreich besitzen. 6 Selig sind, die da hungert und dürstet nach der Gerechtigkeit; denn sie sollen satt werden.

7 Eelig sind die Barmherzigen; denn sie werden Barmherzigkeit erlangen. 8 Selig sind, die reines Herzens sind; denn sie werden Gott schauen.

9 Eelig sind die Friedfertigen; denn sie werden Gottes Kinder heißen.

10 Selig sind, die um Gerechtigkeit willen verfolgt werden; denn das Himmelreich ist ihr.

11 Selig seyd ihr, wenn euch die Menschen um meinet willen schmähen und verfolgen, und_reden allerley Ülebels wider euch, so sie daran lügen.

12 Sehd fröhlich und getrost, es wird euch im Himmel wohl belohnet werden. Denn also haben sie verfolget die Propheten, die vor euch gewesen sind.

13 Ihr sehd das Salz der Erde. Wo nun das Salz dumm wird, womit soll man falzen? Es ist zu nichts hinfort nütze, denn daß man es hinaus schütte, und lasse es die Leute zertreten.

14 Ihr sehd das Licht der Welt. Es mag die Stadt, die auf einem Berge liegt, nicht verborgen seyn.

15 Man zündet auch nicht ein Licht an, und setzt es unter einen Scheffel; sondern auf einen Leuchter, so leuchtet es denen allen, die im Hause sind.

16 Also lasset euer Licht leuchten vor den Leuten, daß sie eure gute Werte fehen, und euren Vater im Himmel preisen.

17 Ihr sollt nicht wähnen, daß ich gekommen bin, das Gesetz oder die Propheten aufzulösen. Ich bin nicht gekommen aufzulösen, sondern zu erfüllen.

18 Denn ich sage euch wahrlich: Bis daß Himmel und Erde zergehe, wird

4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

9 Blessed are the peace-makers: for they shall be called the children of God.

10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are ye when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick: and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

nicht zergehen der kleinste Buchstabe, noch ein Titel vom Gesetze, bis daß es alles geschehe.

19 Wer nun eines von diesen kleinften Geboten auflöset, und lehret die Leute also, der wird der Kleinste heißen im Himmelreiche; wer es aber thut und lehret, der wird groß heißen im Himmelreich.

20 Denn ich sage euch: Es seh denn eure Gerechtigkeit besser, denn der Schriftgelehrten und Pharisäer, fo werdet ihr nicht in das Himmelreich kommen.

21 Ihr habt gehört, daß zu den Alten gesagt ist: Du sollst nicht tödten; wer aber tödtet, der soll des Gerichts schuldig seyn.

22 Ich aber sage euch: Wer mit seinem Bruder zürnet, der ist des Gerichts schuldig; wer aber zu seinem Bruder sagt: Racha, der ist des Raths schuldig; wer aber sagt: Du Narr, der ist des höllischen Feuers schuldig.

23 Darum, wenn du deine Gabe auf dem Altare opferst, und wirst allda eingedenk, daß dein Bruder etwas wider dich habe;

24 So laß allda vor dem Altare deine Gabe, und gehe zuvor hin, und versöhne dich mit deinem Bruder; und alsdann komm, und opfere deine Gabe. 25 Seh willfertig deinem Widersacher bald, dieweil du noch beh ihm auf dem Wege bist, auf daß dich der Widersacher nicht dermaleins überantworte dem Richter, und der Richter überantworte dich dem Diener, und werdest in den Kerfer geworfen.

26 Ich sage dir: Wahrlich, du wirst nicht von dannen herauskommen, bi8 du auch, den letzten Heller bezahlest.

27 Ihr habt gehöret, daß zu den Alten gesagt ist: Du sollst nicht ehebrechen.

28 Ich aber sage euch: Wer ein Weib ansieht, ihrer zu begehren, der hat schon

ment:

22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause, shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell-fire.

23 Therefore, if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee,

24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, while thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into pri

son.

26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust
