And the Raven, never flitting,
Still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas

Just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming
Of a demon's that is dreaming,

And the lamplight o'er him streaming
Throws his shadow on the floor;

And my soul from out that shadow,

That lies floating on the floor,

Shall be lifted-NEVERMORE!

Und der Rabe weichet nimmer,

Sizt noch immer, sigt noch immer
Auf der blassen Pallasbüste

Ob der Thüre hoch und hehr;
Siht mit geisterhaftem Munkeln,
Seine Feueraugen funkeln

Gar dämonisch in dem dunkeln,

Düstern Schatten um ihn her;

Und mein Geist wird aus dem Schatten,

Ten er breitet um mich her,

The Bells.

I.

ear the sledges with the bells

Silver bells!

What a world of merriment their melody foretells!

How they tinkle, tinkle, tinkle,

In the icy air of night!

While the stars that oversprinkle

All the heavens, seem to twinkle
With a crystalline delight;

Keeping time, time, time,

In a sort of Runic rhyme,

To the tintinnabulation that so musically wells

From the bells, bells, bells, bells,

Bells, bells, bells

From the jingling and the tinkling of the bells.

Die Glocken.

I.

ört die Schlittenglöckchen hell

Silberhell!

Welch' unendlich frohe Lust verkündet ihr Geschell!

Wie sie bimmeln, bimmeln, bimmeln,

In der eisig kalten Nacht!

Während an den fernen Himmeln
Auf und ab die Sterne wimmeln,

Funkelnd in krystall❜ner Pracht;

Schwirrend sacht, sacht, sacht,

Bei dem Zaubertakt der Nacht,

Zu dem musikalisch süßen, freudebringenden Geschell,

Das so hell, hell, hell, bell,

Hell, hell, hell

Zu dem Wimmeln und dem Bimmeln silberhell.

II.

Hear the mellow wedding bells—
Golden bells!

What a world of happiness their harmony foretells!
Through the balmy air of night

How they ring out their delight!
From the molten-golden notes,

And all in tune,

What a liquid ditty floats

To the turtle-dove that listens, while she gloats
On the moon!

Oh, from out the sounding cells,
What a gush of euphony voluminously wells!

How it swells!

How it dwells

On the Future! how it tells

Of the rapture that impels
To the swinging and the ringing
Of the bells, bells, bells,

Of the bells, bells, bells, bells,

Bells, bells, bells—

To the rhyming and the chiming of the bells!
