EMMET, contains the Journal from the print of William and Thomas Bradford; the "Memorial to the Inhabitants of the American Colonies"; "Address to the People of Great Britain"; "Memorial to the Inhabitants of Quebec"; the portraits of all the deputies of this Congress, AND ALL OF THEIR AUTOGRAPHS, with a single exception.

It also contains views of nearly all of the homes of the deputies; nearly 300 old engravings and etchings-mostly decorative or symbolical-used on blank pages or as head- and tail-pieces.

The selection of material and its arrangement have been done with exquisite taste, and without regard to labor or expense.

THIS VOLUME IS OF GREAT HISTORIC INTEREST, AS WELL AS INTRINSIC VALUE, for the work of the Congress of 1774 in its short session produced a profound impression in both hemispheres, and the state papers put forth commanded the admiration of the leading statesmen of Europe.

To these beautiful volumes Dr. Emmet has added about 140 extra illustrations, consisting of autographs, portraits, views, vignettes, and small decorative and symbolical subjects.

There are in all, 34 PORTRAITS OF WASHINGTON, ALL FINE IMPRESSIONS, FIVE OF WHICH ARE HAND COLORED, AND A MAJORITY OF VERY LIMITED ISSUE. Among the autographic material is a Land Survey, accompanied by a signed descriptive memorandum, completed April 15, 1751-shortly after Washington's nineteenth birthday; a Lottery Ticket signed by Washington; a page from Washington's Diary bearing the date of April, 1766; a page of the original Orderly Book at Cambridge, in August, 1775, THE COUNTERSIGN WORDS BEING IN THE HANDWRITING OF WASHINGTON, and a SIGNED AUTOGRAPH LETTER OF Two pages, written in November, 1781.

THE EXTREMELY RARE FIKST EDITION. There is an obvious discrepancy between the dates on the title-page and the Colophon, which seems to be common to all known copies. It is no doubt an accidental transposition of the letters XL in the Colophon, the correct date being 1549.

Accompanying these pages are a L. s. by the author relative to the sheets, and an Affidavit certifying that this is the Original Manuscript of these chapters which appeared in the CONNOISSEUR EDITION of the work.
