2. The Reading of Scripture Sentences.

A Collection of Sentences from which Selections
May be Made

I am the resurrection and the life; saith the
Lord;

He that believeth in me, though he die, yet
shall he live;

And whosoever liveth and believeth on me shall never die.

For we know that if the earthly house of

our tabernacle be dissolved, we have a
building from God, a house not made with
hands, eternal in the heavens.

How precious is Thy loving kindness, O
God!

And the children of men take refuge under
the shadow of Thy wings.

For with Thee is the fountain of life;

In Thy light we shall see light.

Lord, Thou hast been our dwelling place in all the generations;

Before the mountains were born,

Before Thou gavest birth to the earth or the world,

From age to age Thou art God.

Thou turnest man back to crumbling dust,
And sayest, Return ye children of men.

For a thousand years in Thy sight are as yesterday when it was passing,

As a watch in the night,

We bring our years to an end as a sigh.
Hear my prayer, O Lord,

Hold not Thy peace at my tears;

For I am but a guest with Thee,

A sojourner, like all my fathers.

For we are but of yesterday and know nothing,

Because our days on earth are a shadow.

God is our refuge and strength,

A very present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear though the earth do change,

And the mountains are thrown down in the heart of the seas.

The Lord is merciful and gracious,

Slow to anger and abundant in loving kind

ness.

Like as a father pitieth his children

So the Lord pitieth them that fear Him; For he knoweth our frame,

He remembereth that we are dust.

The Spirit of the Lord Jehovah is upon me Because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek;

He hath sent me to bind up the broken hearted,

To proclaim liberty to the captives,

The opening of the prison to them that are bound,

To comfort those that mourn.

For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion;

In the covert of His tabernacle shall He hide

me;

He shall set me up upon a rock.

And One shall be as a hiding place from the wind

And a covert from the storm;

As streams in a dry place,

As the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

Fear not, for I have redeemed thee;

I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.

When thou passest through the waters I will be with thee,

And through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee;

When thou walkest through the fire thou shalt not be burned;

Neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
In all their affliction He was afflicted,
And the angel of His Presence saved them.
In His love and in His pity he redeemed
them;

And he bare them and carried them all the days of old.

Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? And one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

Fear ye not, therefore; ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Let not your heart be troubled.
Ye believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Father's house are many mansions;
go to prepare a place for you.

If ye love me, keep my commandments,
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give
you another comforter, the Spirit of truth.
I will not leave you comfortless; I will come
to you.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you;

Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto

me

Write, Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord, from henceforth;

Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors;

For their works follow with them.

......

But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob; Now He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to Him all are alive.

O death, where is thy victory!

O death, where is thy sting!

Thanks be unto God, who giveth us the victory, through our Lord Jesus Christ, Who hath abolished death,

And brought life and immortality to light. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life,

Nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, Nor things present, nor things to come,

Nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing

Shall be able to separate us from the love of God

Which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

To him that overcometh will I give of the hidden manna,

And I will give him a white stone,

And upon the stone a new name written, Which no one knoweth but he that receiveth it.

He that overcometh, I will give to him to sit down with me on my throne,

Even as I also overcame and am set down with my Father on His throne.

Love never faileth:

But whether there be prophecies they shall be done away;

Whether there be tongues, they shall cease; Whether there be knowledge it shall be done

away.

For now we see in a mirror, darkly; then, face to face;

Now we know in part; then shall we know even as we are known.

And now abideth faith, hope, love; these three; And the greatest of these is love.,

Blessed be the God and Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ

Who, according to His great mercy, begat us again unto a living hope
