Badinopolis, chez les frères Ponthommes, à l'enseigne du roi d'Egypte (Paris, Prault), 1741, 4to., reduced to 8vo. in 1743, and to 12mo. in 1767, plates (20s., 10s. and 5s. respectively).

The plates have been since used for "Acajou et Zirphile." The Comte de Tessin, Swedish ambassador to France, being desirous of making the acquaintance of Boucher's wife, is said to have seized the opportunity of bringing this little romance composed by Marivaux to the painter to be illustrated. Only 2 copies in 4to. were then printed (1740), embellished with plates and fleurons after Boucher by L. Cars. The following year (1741) the 4to. edition appeared with the same illustrations, which should be regarded as the original edition; in 1743 the plates were reduced to an 8vo. edition. Having failed to achieve much success with this issue, Comte de Tessin presented the plates to Prault, who engaged Duclos to write a tale for the illustrations, and that is the origin of "Acajou et Zirphile," which appeared in 1764. (See Duclos.) Lion's copy, bound with Acajou" in old red morocco, 50 frs. Mme. Gab. Delessert's copy in 4to., in old red morocco, 250 frs. (1895).
