By the Arminians, in Favour of their SCHEME; PARTICULARLY By Dr. Whitby, in his Discourse on the Fiv Points : In which the Arguments founded PART I., LONDON: King's-Arms in Little-Britain. 17331/ THE PREFACE Earing that Dr. Whitby's discourse on the frue points, was reprinting, which: is judged a master piece on the subject, in the English tongue, I determined to give it a jreb reading ; and having observed that the performance is accounted an unanswerable one, and that the general cry on that fide of the question is, Why don't ye answer Dr. Whitby? I found my self inclined to an attempt of this nature, believing it would be a proper and seasonable time to engage in fucba work. The method in which I propose to consider what this learned writer bas advanced on this subject, is, First, to examine the several passages of scripture mbich he chiefly makes use of for the confirmation of his own scheme, and as militating against these doctrines which are commonly called Calvinistical; and endeavour to answer bis arguments and objections from them, and set tbcfe paffages in a juft and proper light; which composes tbuis first part I nom publish.
