The 13th or concluding volume of this most important work is of the greatest possible scarcity, so much so that very few of the libraries even in Italy possess it. The cause of this, as mentioned to the publisher of this catalogue by the late Rev. Dr. Rock, the well-known and accomplished ecclesiastical antiquary, is, that when the French troops occupied Rome after the first Revolution, they took the entire stock of this vol. then in the Propagand warehouse for cartridges, thereby, as the Doctor facetiously added, distributing the work at a more rapid rate than booksellers.
