THE Association shall be styled the Devonshire Association for the Advancement of Science, Literature, and Art. 2. The objects of the Association are-To give a stronger impulse and a more systematic direction to scientific inquiry in Devonshire; and to promote the intercourse of those who cultivate Science, Literature, or Art, in different parts of the county. 3. The Association shall consist of Members, Honorary Members, and Corresponding Members. 4. Every candidate for membership, on being nominated by a member to whom he is personally known, shall be admitted by the General Secretary, subject to the confirmation of the General Meeting of the Members. 5. Persons of eminence in Literature, Science, or Art, connected with the West of England, but not resident in Devonshire, may, at a General Meeting of the Members, be elected Honorary Members of the Association; and persons not resident in the county, who feel an interest in the Association, may be elected Corresponding Members. 6. Every Member shall pay an Annual Contribution of Half a Guinea or a Life Composition Fee of Seven and a Half Guineas. But Members of Ten Years' standing and more, whose Contributions are not in arrears, may compound by a Single Payment of Five Guineas. 7. Ladies only shall be admitted as Associates to an Annual Meeting, and shall pay the sum of Five Shillings each. 8. Every Member shall be entitled gratuitously to a lady's ticket. 9. The Association shall meet annually, at such a time in July or August and at such place as shall be decided on at the previous Annual Meeting. 10. A President, two or more Vice-Presidents, a General Treasurer, and one or more General Secretaries, shall be elected at each Annual Meeting. 11. The President shall not be eligible for re-election. |
