4 Not in the tombs we pine to dwell, Not in the dark monastic cell,

By vows and grates confined;
Freely to all ourselves we give,
Constrain❜d by Jesus' love to live
The servants of mankind.

5 Now, Jesus, now thy love impart,
To govern each devoted heart,
And fit us for thy will;

Deep founded in the truth of grace,
Build up thy rising Church, and place
The city on the hill.

60 let our love and faith abound; O let our lives, to all around,

With purest lustre shine;

That all around our works may see,

And give the glory, Lord, to thee,
The heavenly light divine.

The minister's only business. ESUS, the Name high over all,

In hell, or earth, or sky; Angels and men before it fall, And devils fear and fly.

C. M.

2 Jesus, the Name to sinners dear,The Name to sinners given;

It scatters all their guilty fear;

It turns their hell to heaven.

3 Jesus the pris'ner's fetters breaks, And bruises Satan's head;

Power into strengthless souls he speaks, And life into the dead.

4 0 that the world might taste and see The riches of his grace;

The arms of love that compass me,
Would all mankind embrace.

A

Grateful remembrance.

CCORDING to thy gracious word,
In meek humility,

This will I do, my dying Lord,

I will remember thee.

2 Thy body, broken for my sake,
My bread from heaven shall be:
Thy testamental cup I take,
And thus remember thee.
3 Gethsemane can I forget?
Or there thy conflict see,
Thine agony and bloody sweat,
And not remember thee?

4 When to the cross I turn mine eyes,

And rest on Calvary,

O Lamb of God, my Sacrifice,

I must remember thee!

5 Remember thee and all thy pains, And all thy love to me;

Yea, while a breath, a pulse remains,

Will I remember thee.

6 And when these failing lips grow dumb, And mind and mem'ry flee,

When thou shalt in thy kingdom come,
Jesus, remember me.

The opened Fountain.

ALL'D from above, I rise,

CALL

And wash away my sin;

S. M.

The stream to which my spirit flies,

Can make the foulest clean.

2 It runs divinely clear,

A fountain deep and wide:

"Twas open'd by the soldier's spear, In my Redeemer's side.

3 The vineyard of the Lord
Before his lab'rers lies;

And lo! we see the vast reward
Which waits us in the skies.

4 0 let our heart and mind
Continually ascend,

That haven of repose to find,
Where all our labours end;

5 Where all our toils are o'er,
Our suff'ring and our pain:
Who meet on that eternal shore,
Shall never part again.

Continued-Labourers rewarded.

HAPPY, happy place,

Where saints and angels meet! There we shall see each other's face, And all our brethren greet.

2 The Church of the first-born,
We shall with them be blest,
And, crown'd with endless joy, return
To our eternal rest.

3 With joy we shall behold,
In yonder blest abode,
The patriarchs and prophets old,
And all the saints of God.

4 Abrah'm and Isaac, there,
And Jacob, shall receive.

The foll'wers of their faith and prayer Who now in bodies live.

5 We shall our time beneath

Live out in cheerful hope,

And fearless pass the vale of death, And gain the mountain top.

5th P. M. 4 lines 7s.

Discerning the Lord's body.
[ESUS, all-redeeming Lord,
Magnify thy dying word;
In thine ordinance appear;
Come, and meet thy foll'wers here.
2 In the rite thou hast enjoin'd,
Let us now our Saviour find;
Drink thy blood for sinners shed,
Taste thee in the broken bread.
3 Thou our faithful hearts prepare;
Thou thy pard'ning grace declare :
Thou that hast for sinners died,
Show thyself the Crucified!

4 All the power of sin remove;
Fill us with thy perfect love;
Stamp us with the stamp divine;
Seal our souls forever thine.

Strength renewed.

GOD, unseen, yet ever near,
Thy presence may we feel;

And thus, inspired with holy fear,
Before thy table kneel.

2 Here may thy faithful people know

The blessings of thy love;

C. M.

The streams that through the desert low,

The manna from above.

3 We come, obedient to thy word,
To feast on heavenly food;
Our meat, the body of the Lord;
Our drink, his precious blood.

4 Thus may we all thy words obey,
For we, O God, are thine;

And go rejoicing on our way,
Renew'd with strength divine.

274

The supper of the Lamb.

S. M.

THEE, King of saints, we praise

For this our living bread;
Nourish'd by thy preserving grace,
And at thy table fed.

2 Yet still a higher seat
We in thy kingdom claim,
Who here begin by faith to eat
The supper of the Lamb.
3 That glorious, heavenly prize,
We surely shall attain,

And, in the palace of the skies,
With thee forever reign.

275

Obeying the command.

ESUS, we thus obey

JEST

Thy last and kindest word;
Here, in thine own appointed way,

We come to meet our Lord.

2 The way thou hast enjoin'd,
Thou wilt therein appear;
We come with confidence to find
Thy special presence here.
3 Whate'er the' Almighty can
To pardon'd sinners give,

The fulness of our God made man,
We here with Christ receive.

1st P. M. 6 lines 8s.

The efficacy of the atoning blood.

VICTIM divine!

ICTIM divine! thy grace we claim
While thus thy precious death we show;

Once fer'd up a spotless Lamb,

In thy great temple here below, Thou didst for all mankind atone, And standest now before the throne.
